Norrington-Davies Embraces QPR Experience
For Rhys Norrington-Davies, donning the QPR kit is truly about connecting with the passionate supporters.
A recent addition on loan from Sheffield United, Norrington-Davies has firmly established himself in the left-back role under the guidance of manager Julien Stephan.
Home Advantage
The Wales international expressed his surprise at the vibrant atmosphere created by the home crowd at Loftus Road after his initial outings with QPR.
Speaking to Tribalfootball.com, Norrington-Davies remarked,
When I first arrived, I mentioned to the guys how incredible the fans were, particularly during victory. I asked if the ambiance was always like this when we win, and they responded, “Yes, it’s always lively when we’re up”. I thought that was fantastic.
According to him, the strong bond between players and fans is evident, and he emphasized the need for the team to maintain high performance levels.
Early Days
Norrington-Davies’s arrival coincided with a winning streak that propelled QPR to sixth place in the Championship standings prior to the international break. Unfortunately, a recent dip has seen them drop towards the lower half of the table.
However, he believes it is premature to assess the team’s season ambitions at this stage. He stated that the standings would begin to take shape in the New Year.
He further explained,
There is still a lot of football to play. Ask me again after another nine or ten matches, and I’ll provide a clearer insight then. A lot can change in that timeframe, especially with the strong competition we face. Let’s focus on the upcoming games for now.
He added,
We have a strong squad with healthy competition. Success in earning promotion requires a solid defensive setup and limiting goals conceded. If we can maintain this foundation, our attacking players have the capability to win games and score goals. If the forwards are converting chances and the defense is keeping clean sheets, we have every reason to be optimistic. Yet, as I mentioned, it’s still early in the season.
The Decision to Join QPR
Regarding his own performance, Norrington-Davies feels assured of the manager’s trust. He recounted how easily he committed to the loan after hearing QPR’s plans.
I had discussions with the team here, and they conveyed their need for a left-back who could contribute actively to the gameplay. Once that was mentioned, I was sold,
he recalled.
He acknowledged the competitive nature within the Championship, noting that while QPR has faced challenges in recent seasons, their aim was to avoid relegation and secure a mid-table finish, which they have achieved, with aspirations to improve further this season.
Reflecting on his relationship with Stephan, Norrington-Davies said,
I’ve had experience under various managers. I’ve really connected with Julien concerning his playing philosophy, both in and out of possession. He conducts thorough research on the opponents and tailors strategies for each match, making him pleasant to work with.
He added,
He has a clear plan and communicates it effectively, ensuring everyone understands their role. His approach to management has been top-notch and beneficial for me.
Norrington-Davies concluded,
His system fits my style well. As an out-and-out left-back, my primary focus is on maintaining a strong defensive structure. If there’s an opportunity to join the attack, I’m free to do so, which aligns perfectly with my playstyle.
