Morocco head coach Walid Regragui says his medical team will do everything possibleto get Achraf Hakimi fit for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This comes after the PSG star suffered a serious ankle injury during their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
“Let me be clear… We’ll do everything to make sure Achraf Hakimi is 100% fit to face Comoros in the opening match on December 21”. Regragui said during Friday’s press briefing, where he also announced Morocco’s squad for the November friendlies.
Bayern’s Luis Díaz launched a reckless tackle on Hakimi causing a syndesmosis rupture. A medical term for a tear between the lower leg bones.
Doctors expect the recovery to take four to six weeks of rehab after two weeks of immobilization.
Media outlets report that Hakimi will miss the rest of 2025 with PSG, though Marca noted he won’t need surgery.
Despite the setback, Regragui remains confident. “If there’s one player who can come back quickly, it’s Achraf Hakimi. We have one of the best medical staffs in the world, as does PSG,” he said. Adding that Hakimi will only play if he’s fully fit.
Morocco will face Mozambique on November 14 and Uganda on November 18.
Stars like Yassine Bounou, Nayef Aguerd, Noussair Mazraoui, Sofyan Amrabat, Azzedine Ounahi, and Youssef En-Nesyri all included in the squad.
