Eder Militao Contemplated Retirement After Severe Knee Injuries
Real Madrid’s defender Eder Militao has revealed that he contemplated the possibility of retiring from professional football following the impact of two significant knee injuries within a span of two years.
Long Recovery Periods
The 27-year-old faced a challenging 2023–24 season, where he was sidelined for a staggering 214 days after sustaining an ACL injury in his left knee.
Another Setback
Militao’s struggles didn’t end there; he also endured a similar knee injury in his right leg last season, which kept him out for an additional 234 days. This series of injuries led him to question whether he should continue with his football career.
Return to the National Team
Currently, Militao is back with the Brazilian national team after missing the previous two call-ups from coach Carlo Ancelotti. He expressed that during his recovery, he had serious thoughts about stepping away from the sport.
His Thoughts on Injury
In anticipation of their upcoming match against South Korea on October 10, Militao shared, “A lot crossed my mind with my second injury. I even considered leaving football because it’s really tough, but thanks to my wife, my daughter, and my teammates, I’m here now, ready to perform well.”
