Antony Reveals Atletico Madrid’s Interest Prior to Joining Real Betis

Antony has disclosed that Atletico Madrid expressed a desire to acquire him before he finalized his move to Real Betis this summer.

After an impressive six-month loan period at Betis last season, Antony made a permanent switch from Manchester United in the closing days of the transfer window. However, this transfer followed extensive negotiations and competitive offers.

Antony’s Reflections on Transfer Options

Antony shared his thoughts, saying, “There were several enticing offers, but many were just discussions rather than concrete proposals. I recognized how crucial it was for me to return to Betis. Atletico Madrid and other clubs showed interest as well, but those talks did not lead to anything substantial.”

He emphasized, “The only official offer I received was from Betis, which I accepted because it was my preferred choice. The other discussions remained just that – discussions.”

Despite facing hurdles in the negotiations between Manchester United and the Spanish club, the forward maintained his commitment to Betis.

Commitment and Gratitude

Expressing his joy at rejoining Betis, Antony stated, “I am thrilled to be back. This was the choice I wanted, and it was what my wife wished for too. The process was challenging, yet I draw strength from my past experiences, such as the difficult times I faced in the favela.”

He added, “Persistence is key; I was focused on preparing for this moment. There was some anxiety about not being able to secure this move, as Betis was the club I truly wanted to join. Even though it was tough, I ultimately achieved my goal, and I couldn’t be happier to be here.”
