Premier League: Late Surge by Heart of Lions Fuels Basake Holy Stars Maiden Victory of the Season

Premier League Matchday 9 Recap

Key Victories for Heart of Lions, Young Apostles FC, and Basake Holy Stars

Several crucial matches took place on Matchday 9 of the Premier League, with Heart of Lions, Young Apostles FC, and Basake Holy Stars achieving significant victories.

Heart of Lions Triumph Over Berekum Chelsea

Heart of Lions managed a thrilling 1-0 victory against Berekum Chelsea, thanks to a last-minute goal from substitute Paul Atta Agyei at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

After a tightly contested first half, during which Lions had a penalty appeal denied and Ishmael Addo missed a scoring opportunity, they kept pressing after the break. Coach Bashiru Hayford brought in Atta Agyei in the 65th minute, and he made an immediate impact by scoring in stoppage time to secure a much-needed win for the home team.

Young Apostles FC’s Comeback Against Bechem United

At the Wenchi Sports Stadium, newly promoted Young Apostles FC turned the tide with an impressive 3-2 win over Bechem United in a match full of excitement.

Bechem United started strong, scoring in the 25th minute with a goal from Augustine Okrah. However, Issah Hussein pulled one back for the hosts just before halftime. After the break, Issah Nyaabila put Young Apostles in the lead in the 57th minute, but Darlvin from Bechem United equalized in the 79th minute. Substitute Vincent Mobilla then sealed the victory for Young Apostles with a goal in the 85th minute, earning them a spot in the middle of the table with 14 points.

Meanwhile, Bechem United struggles continue as they remain mired in the relegation zone with just one win this season.

Basake Holy Stars Secure First Victory of the Season

Basake Holy Stars finally broke their winless streak with a solid 2-0 victory over defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars at the AAK Sports Arena in Ampain.

After eight games without a win, Holy Stars delivered their best performance so far this season. Prince Opoku opened the scoring in the 36th minute, followed by a goal from Prince Tweneboah just four minutes later, giving the home side a comforting lead at halftime. The Gold Stars, who had been unbeaten in their previous four matches, could not recover as the hosts displayed strong defense, achieving their first clean sheet and win of the season.

This victory brings renewed hope for Basake Holy Stars, while Bibiani Gold Stars face challenges as their title defense falters.

Karela United and Dreams FC Draw

On Sunday at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Karela United and Dreams FC played to a 1-1 draw.

Karela got off to a quick start, scoring in the 6th minute through Malik Abubakar. Following a dominant first half from Karela, Dreams FC made an immediate comeback after halftime, with Seidu Suraj equalizing just a minute into the second half.

Karela United sought the winning goal, creating several chances that went unconverted due to missed opportunities and strong defensive efforts from Dreams FC. This draw leaves Karela United in ninth place with 13 points, while Dreams FC remains in 13th position as they look to regain momentum after a rocky start to the season.

FC Samartex 1996 Returns to Winning Ways

FC Samartex 1996 bounced back with a narrow 1-0 victory against Swedru All Blacks at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.

Overcoming a recent defeat to Dreams FC, the Timber giants showed determination, with Emmanuel Mamah’s first-half penalty proving crucial. Mamah converted the spot kick just before halftime, and although Swedru All Blacks pressured during the second half, Samartex maintained their defensive composure to secure the win.

Looking ahead, FC Samartex aims to build on this success as they face struggling Bechem United next weekend, while Swedru All Blacks will seek to rebound at home against Accra Hearts of Oak.
