CAF Interclub Competitions: Power Dynamos, JS Kabylie Shine as 20 Teams Advance to Next Round

The road to continental glory is heating up, with 20 clubs booking their places in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup after a weekend filled with drama, late goals, and penalty shootouts.
In the CAF Champions League, 12 teams progressed.
Among the standout performers were JS Kabylie of Algeria and Tunisia’s Monastir, who both netted seven goals over two legs to brush aside Bibiani Gold Stars and East End Lions respectively.
Elsewhere, Power Dynamos of Zambia made history, eliminating Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan.
After a 1-1 aggregate draw, Dynamos held their nerve to win 5-4 on penalties, edging closer to their dream of becoming only the third Zambian club to reach the group stages.
Other notable qualifiers included Kenya Police, who advanced past Mogadishu City on away goals, while Nsingizini Hotspurs and Rahimo also survived tense shootouts to keep their continental hopes alive.
African heavyweights Al Ahly Tripoli, Al-Hilal, Rivers United, Colombe, and Nouadhibou all proved their pedigree by advancing after cagey first legs.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, eight sides sealed progression. ZESCO United and OC Safi were ruthless, scoring five goals apiece to advance comfortably.
Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko continued their fine run, knocking out Kwara United 5-3 on aggregate, while USFA, Djoliba, and Flambeau du Centre also booked their spots in the next stage.
There’s still unfinished business: Al-Merrikh will meet Saint-Éloi Lupopo on October 4, while defending Champions League holders Pyramids FC face Rwanda’s APR on October 5 in Cairo.
With each round, the competition grows fiercer and the race for group stage places promises more shocks, heartbreaks, and unforgettable moments across the continent.
