Initiative Spotlights Young Talent
The “Catch Them Young Referees” initiative was prominently showcased during the second edition of the U15 Girls Championship held in Prampram.
Referee Experience Shared
Helena Obeng, one of the referees, recounted her experience officiating the final match of the recently concluded Elite U15 Girls Championship.
She expressed her gratitude towards the Ghana Football Association for providing young girls with the opportunity to pursue officiating from an early age.
Reflections on Officiating
“I wasn’t afraid when I learned I would be officiating the finals. Our instructors prepared us thoroughly, which boosted my confidence. Since getting involved in the Catch Them Young Referees program, I have gained a wealth of knowledge from the training provided. I highly recommend this initiative to anyone interested in officiating, as it is incredibly beneficial,” she stated.
Obeng also shared her struggles with running, confessing that it was challenging and almost made her want to quit. “However, with determination and support, I persevered. I would encourage other young girls who have a passion for this field to join, as it is exciting, enjoyable, and educational,” she added.
She expressed appreciation for the supportive environment during the camp, noting the care taken in terms of food and accommodations. “I aspire to work hard and become a FIFA referee one day,” she remarked.
“I want to take this chance to thank the GFA for their support. I hope they continue these programs,” she concluded.
