Pique Supports Araujos Decision to Depart from Barcelona and Football

Barcelona Supports Araujo’s Break for Mental Health

FC Barcelona has granted Ronald Araujo a leave of absence from football due to concerns regarding his mental health.

Pique’s Support for Araujo

Gerard Pique expressed his understanding of Araujo’s choice, stating in an interview with Sport: “It’s crucial to prioritize mental health. This issue transcends football and the sports arena.”

Awareness on Mental Health

Pique highlighted the growing awareness surrounding mental health, referencing public figures like Andreu Buenafuente, who also took a step back for similar reasons. He emphasized, “People are starting to acknowledge this topic more, which is commendable, though it’s long overdue.”

“Pique reflected on the sports industry’s historic delays in addressing issues such as racism and stadiumm violence. He noted, ‘Football has often lagged in adapting to evolving standards of respect. It’s high time we foster a culture that values the well-being of professionals and eliminates a permissive environment for insults and disrespect.'”

Personal Experiences

Pique shared his own experiences from his time with the national team, particularly during tumultuous periods related to independence. “It was essential to build defenses around oneself. There comes a time when neglecting public opinion becomes necessary for one’s mental wellbeing.”

He concluded by acknowledging the differing abilities individuals have in managing such stress. “Ronald made a commendable choice to voice his need for a break. The club’s support in granting him the necessary time is imperative, and I encourage fans across Spain to contemplate this matter seriously.”
