Pep Guardiola Discusses Surprising Xabi Alonso Dismissal Rumors at Real Madrid

Alonso’s Job at Risk Ahead of Key Clash

Pressure on Real Madrid Manager

Recent reports from Spain indicate that coach Alonso, aged 44, might face dismissal if Real Madrid does not secure a victory against Manchester City on Wednesday (December 10).

Real Madrid is currently experiencing a challenging period, leading to speculation that Alonso’s relationship with the team’s star players may be strained.

Guardiola Shows Support for Alonso

Ahead of the crucial match, Guardiola, who previously worked with Alonso during their time at Bayern Munich, addressed the swirling rumors regarding Alonso’s future.

“We shared two remarkable years together, and it was an exceptional experience,” Guardiola stated. “We experienced a lot together.”

Guardiola emphasized the unique pressures associated with managing clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, describing them as the hardest environments for a coach. He reflected on his own journey, noting that he faced the possibility of being fired long before the season concluded last year, underscoring the high-stakes nature of the role.

“It’s a challenging position, but he understands it well as he has firsthand experience,” Guardiola added. “Currently, they are dealing with several player injuries, a situation we also faced last season. Naturally, he is more than capable of navigating through this.”

Call for Stability

Guardiola further commented on the importance of reducing ‘player power’ within the club, advocating for a more solid backing of managers.

“The way authority is distributed will determine who has the influence,” he noted. “If the club’s hierarchy supports the manager, he will have the necessary control; if they choose to empower the players, then that is where the power will lie.”
