Guardiola Discusses Bernardo Silva’s Future at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has addressed the future of Bernardo Silva, suggesting that the midfielder may depart from the club next summer. The 31-year-old’s current contract with City is set to conclude at the end of the season, and there have been no discussions regarding a potential extension.

Benfica’s Interest

There are reports indicating that Silva’s former club, Benfica, is keen on re-signing him and could begin negotiations for a “pre-agreement” starting January 1st.

Current Role at Manchester City

Despite the uncertainties surrounding his contract, Guardiola continues to depend on the talented playmaker, having included him in the starting lineup for eight out of their first twelve matches in the Premier League, where Silva has also contributed two assists.

Guardiola’s Statement

In a statement ahead of the upcoming match against Leeds United on Saturday, Guardiola refrained from confirming whether Silva would stay with the team. He remarked,

I want the best for Bernardo, and if he wants to stay at City I will be more than delighted and happy. I want the best for him. He spent 9 years here; in the end, he will decide with the club what is best.
