French coach Patrice Beaumelle has been unveiled as the new head coach of Angola’s national team, marking his return to Luanda after more than a decade.

The 47-year-old takes over from Portuguese tactician Pedro Gonçalves on a two-year deal.

He has been tasked to guide the Palancas Negras at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Beaumelle, who previously worked in Angola as part of Hervé Renard’s backroom staff in 2010, boasts vast experience across the continent.

He had a stint as head coach of Côte d’Ivoire, whom he led to the knockout stage of AFCON 2021.

He also recently managed Algerian side USM Alger in the CAF Champions League.

The Frenchman is aware of the task ahead as Angola prepares to face Egypt, South Africa, and Zimbabwe in Group B.

“The goal is always to give our best with heart. We will compete in a tough group, facing strong opponents like Egypt, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Only two will qualify, but we believe it is possible,” he said.

While refusing to promise instant glory, Beaumelle stressed that his focus is on building a disciplined and cohesive side.

“We have to be humble, work seriously, and let the results speak for themselves. Discipline, organization, and trust in Angolan players will be the keys to our success.”

Beaumelle revealed that he chose the Angolan job over other offers because of his belief in the project.

“I saw this project as an opportunity for continuity and growth. I have already spoken to all the players and will travel to observe both those playing abroad and those in Angola. It is essential to closely monitor all available talent.”

His technical team will include assistant coach Saad Ishalalen and fitness trainer Olivier Martinez. Both of whom will be based permanently in Angola.
