Crystal Palace’s chairman, Steve Parish, has elaborated on the club’s last-minute decision to prevent Marc Guehi from transferring to Liverpool just before the transfer deadline.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Sunday, Parish stated, “Making this decision was not easy. The reality is that situations like this are rarely straightforward.” He emphasized his reasoning:

• Retaining Expertise: “Ultimately, I concluded, based on the advice I received and my own perspective, that our chances for a successful season would improve if we retained Marc.”

• Valuing Premier League Status: “We do not make assumptions in these scenarios. When considering the financial significance of remaining in the Premier League and the fact that we are entering the Conference League for the first time, this sets a unique context for holding onto a key player.”

• Hypothetical Trade-offs: “If we were in a position where the league standings were closely contested, say between 10th and 14th place, and this affected our decision to keep or sell Marc, we might have chosen to accept the offer.”
