Osimhen Hat-Trick Fires Nigeria Into 2026 World Cup Play-Offs

Victor Osimhen delivered when it mattered most. The Napoli striker scored a stunning hat-trick to lead Nigeria to a 4–0 win over Benin in Uyo on Tuesday, securing the Super Eagles a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs.

Heading into the final Group C match day, Nigeria sat third and on the brink of elimination.

But Osimhen’s brilliance turned the tide, inspiring a dominant display that kept their World Cup dream alive.

Nigeria came out flying. Osimhen struck twice in the first half to put the hosts in control before completing his hat-trick after the break.

A late goal sealed a resounding win that lifted the Super Eagles to second place in the group with 17 points, level with Benin but ahead on goal difference.

The result spared Nigeria from an early exit and set up a play-off path to North America 2026.

Elsewhere, South Africa booked their World Cup ticket with a 3–0 victory over Rwanda in Mbombela, finishing top of the group and qualifying directly.
