Gary O’Neil Supports Rob Edwards’ Appointment as Wolves Manager
Gary O’Neil has expressed his support for Rob Edwards, who is poised to be announced as the new manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Announcement of New Manager
Wolverhampton is expected to reveal Edwards as their new manager on Monday after reaching an agreement on compensation with Middlesbrough. Edwards had previously joined Middlesbrough earlier this summer but departed after only a few months.
O’Neil’s Endorsement
O’Neil has voiced his backing for Edwards’ return to Molineux, stating in an interview:
I find it quite fascinating how they are transitioning. They have unfortunately lost significant players in the recent transfer windows.
They made considerable investments last summer, supporting Vitor Pereira.
However, the team assembled has struggled to achieve favorable outcomes. They are currently undergoing a transition from the original squad we had.
This new group is more physical, though perhaps not as technically skilled, indicating that a substantial reset is necessary.
I believe Rob must see potential in this opportunity. He did a commendable job at Middlesbrough, and he should be able to guide this squad towards avoiding relegation in the latter part of the season.
Edwards, like O’Neil, is a former player for Wolves. O’Neil had previously engaged in discussions regarding a contract with the club last week but ultimately chose to withdraw from consideration.
