Olsson Persuades Sweden to Name Potter as a Positive and Exciting Choice

Olsson convinced Sweden appointing Potter "positive and exciting"

Jonas Olsson Applauds Graham Potter’s Appointment as Sweden Coach

Former defender for Sweden and West Bromwich Albion, Jonas Olsson, has expressed his support for the recent hiring of Graham Potter.

Potter was officially announced as the new head coach of the Swedish national team last week, with a contract running through the end of the World Cup qualification period.

Olsson’s Thoughts on Potter

Olsson shared his insights regarding the appointment of the ex-West Ham and Chelsea manager, stating, “It’s important to consider that we are in the midst of qualifying. With just three weeks until the next match, bringing in a coach like Graham Potter is a smart choice—it’s both positive and thrilling.”

He added, “He is taking over a national team that has a strong individual talent pool. Moreover, his coaching style aligns well with what the federation has been advocating for: offensive, attractive football that is forward-looking.”

He continued, “Like many British coaches, Potter has shown skill in organizational strategy and achieving a solid defensive balance while pushing forward. Therefore, this appointment appears to be a promising one.”

Challenges Ahead for Potter

Discussing Potter’s previous experiences at West Ham and Chelsea, Olsson remarked to HD.se, “We can’t ignore the challenges he faced at those clubs. If we play devil’s advocate regarding his current position, we note that, historically, it took time for him to implement his vision at both Chelsea and West Ham, as well as during his early days at Swansea.”

He cautioned, “In a national team context, time to develop an approach is limited, particularly now, and immediate results are crucial. This creates a bit of uncertainty about how effectively he will be able to make his mark quickly.”
