Nigeria defender Ola Aina considers leaving the Super Eagles after he felt neglected by the Nigeria Football Federation during his recovery from injury.
Aina, who turns out for Nottingham Forest, suffered an injury in September while playing for Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
He left the match with a setback that kept him out for both club and country.
Nigeria later failed to reach the 2026 World Cup, and Forest still struggle in the Premier League as the defender continues his spell on the sidelines.
The right-back missed 18 matches since the incident, and sources close to him believe the experience hardened his frustration.
He reportedly felt alone during his recovery and believes the federation ignored his situation despite the injury occurring during national duty.
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau travelled to England recently and met Aina to address the issue.
During the meeting, Aina voiced his disappointment and challenged the leadership over the federation’s handling of his situation.
Sources at SCORENigeria revealed the growing tension around the full-back’s future.
They believe Aina now considers withdrawing from the national team setup.
According to them, he told close associates that he struggled with how the federation treated him after the incident in Bloemfontein.
The same sources revealed that Aina reacted strongly during Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup playoff against Gabon in Rabat earlier this month.
He joined a pay-related protest during the build-up to the match, and the move deepened the rift between the player and federation officials.
Those events reportedly convinced Gusau to travel to England in an attempt to repair the relationship.
For now, Aina continues his recovery while weighing up a decision that could end his international career.
The Super Eagles await his final stance as he evaluates whether the NFF’s recent outreach changed his position.
