Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi Sets New Record In Premier League

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has etched his name into Nigerian football history, becoming the country’s all-time appearance leader in the English Premier League.

The 29-year-old reached the milestone on Saturday when he featured for Fulham in their narrow 1–0 defeat to Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

The outing marked his 299th Premier League match, surpassing former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi’s long-standing record of 298 games.

Iwobi, who began his top-flight journey with Arsenal in the 2015/16 season before moving to Everton and later Fulham, has been a consistent performer under Marco Silva.

His versatility and creativity have made him a key figure for the Cottagers since his switch from Merseyside in 2023.

With nearly a decade of Premier League experience, Iwobi now tops the list of Nigerian appearance makers, ahead of legends like Ameobi (298), Nwankwo Kanu (273), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Mikel Obi (249).

Despite Fulham’s defeat, the match served as a personal triumph for Iwobi, a testament to his longevity.
