NFF President Gusau Confident Ahead Of Super Eagles’ Playoffs Final

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles as they prepare for Sunday’s African Playoffs final against DR Congo.

The Nigerian side secured a 4-1 extra-time win over Gabon in Thursday’s semi-final, with Victor Osimhen scoring twice and Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams adding the other goals.

Gabon had taken the game into extra time with a late strike from Mario Lemina, but Nigeria responded emphatically to seal their place in the final.

“We are happy with the result,” Gusau said.

“The players rose stoutly to the occasion and made Nigeria proud with a solid performance.”

Osimhen, who had missed several chances earlier, celebrated his first extra-time goal by removing his mask and shirt.

His brace now takes him to 31 international goals, just six shy of Rashidi Yekini’s all-time record.

“No doubt, they have that grit, guts and winning mentality to conquer whoever turns out to be the opposition in Sunday’s Final,” Gusau added.

The winner of the Nigeria vs DR Congo clash will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs, scheduled to be held in Mexico in March 2026 for a slot at the World Cup.
