New York Red Bulls Uncertain About Timo Werners MLS Transfer Potential
Timo Werner’s Transfer to New York Red Bulls Uncertain
Concerns Over Move
Reports indicate that Timo Werner, formerly associated with Chelsea and Tottenham, may not be transitioning to MLS team New York Red Bulls as the club remains unsure about his acquisition.
The 29-year-old striker has experienced a significant decline in performance since joining Tottenham on loan, netting only three goals since January 2024.
Current Status at RB Leipzig
Werner has returned to RB Leipzig but has had minimal playing time this season, appearing only once as a substitute in their 1-0 victory against Wolfsburg back in September.
He nearly secured a transfer to the New York Red Bulls during the summer; however, complications regarding his salary demands caused the deal to collapse.
Insights from Red Bulls Management
In an interview with The Athletic, Julian de Guzman, the newly appointed head of sports for the Red Bulls, commented on the situation, stating, “There have always been discussions about Werner.”
“We need to ensure that any decision makes sense for us in New York. He is a big name, and I believe the fans would have welcomed him.”
“The chance was there, but we weren’t entirely convinced it was the right move for New York. That’s why we opted to proceed with caution regarding that designated player position,” he explained.
