Ugandan Premier League side NEC FC have suspended head coach Hussein Mbalangu for two months over what the club calls “professional and ethical misconduct.”
The Kampala-based club announced the decision on Wednesday and confirmed that assistant coach James Odoch will step in as interim head coach.
“Head Coach Mbalangu Hussein has been suspended due to professional and ethical misconduct, effective immediately,” the club said in a statement. “James Odoch will now take charge of the team.”
The suspension follows NEC’s slow start to the season. An early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup and two league draws. Club officials, however, insist the move has nothing to do with recent results.
Odoch’s first assignment comes on Saturday when NEC travel to face Entebbe UPPC at the Fisheries Grounds in Bugonga.
In a separate update, the club confirmed that defender Jacob Okao will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Okao sustained the injury during last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Police FC after colliding with an opponent. Doctors expect him to be out for six to twelve months.
