Olympique de Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd is set to miss Morocco’s upcoming international camp after his groin problem.
Despite featuring in Marseille’s 3–0 Ligue 1 win over Brest on November 8, the Moroccan centre-back was substituted late in the game after feeling pain in his groin.
Following the match, head coach Roberto De Zerbi revealed that the injury has been a persistent issue.
“Aguerd’s the bad news here today, he’s still got this pubalgia issue and it seems to be getting worse. He’ll get some tests done but he needs to take a bit of time out,” said De Zerbi in his post-match comments.
Local reports indicate that Aguerd will be unavailable for Morocco’s training camp and upcoming friendlies against Mozambique and Uganda.
Although he will not be involved on the pitch, the 29-year-old has still joined the Atlas Lions squad to undergo further assessment and begin treatment under the supervision of the national medical team.
Aguerd is expected to spend several days with the camp but will remain sidelined for at least 15 days, a recovery period that could also rule him out of Marseille’s trip to Nice on November 21.
With the AFCON just weeks away, Morocco’s technical team is expected to take no risks with his fitness.
