Nagelsmann Nearly Excludes Gironas Ter Stegen from Germanys World Cup Roster

Ter Stegen’s Loan to Girona Cut Short by Injury

Ambitious Move for World Cup Selection

Ter Stegen made the switch to Girona on a temporary basis from Barcelona in January, aiming to regain his form and fitness ahead of the World Cup. Unfortunately, he faced a setback as he sustained a significant hamstring injury during his second game.

Coach’s Reaction to the Injury

“It’s certainly a heartbreaking situation for Marc; it felt like he was finally getting his chance,” remarked Nagelsmann in an interview with Kicker.

“This kind of serious issue arising from what should be a routine action, like a straightforward pass, is truly unfortunate. Given his history with the national team, it seemed like the right moment for him.”

Future Prospects Uncertain

While Nagelsmann refrained from completely ruling out Ter Stegen’s chances of joining the national team, he acknowledged the pressing timeline.

“The door isn’t completely shut, but the time constraints are significant. We have to consider not just his recent injury but also his limited playing time over the past year, which is quite minimal,” Nagelsmann noted.
