Moukoko Discloses He Rejected Bundesliga Offers to Sign with FC Copenhagen

Youssoufa Moukoko’s Transition to FC Copenhagen

Expectations and Early Career

The anticipation surrounding Youssoufa Moukoko was significant when he made his first-team debut for Borussia Dortmund at the tender age of 16.

Departure from Dortmund

Despite the early promise, Moukoko struggled to find his form at Signal Iduna Park. Following a loan to OGC Nice, he made the decision to leave the Bundesliga permanently this summer, opting to sign with FC Copenhagen.

Seeking New Challenges

In a recent interview with Kicker, the 20-year-old disclosed that he received offers from various Bundesliga teams but chose to venture outside of Germany for a fresh experience.

Learning from the Loan Period

He acknowledged that his time at Nice did not translate into sporting success; however, he valued the lessons learned during that period.

Moukoko shared, “Many people may find it hard to believe, but Nice was the best thing that could have happened to me. While at Dortmund, it was easy to blame the coach if I wasn’t on the pitch. In Nice, I learned to reflect on my own performance first.”

Current Struggles at Copenhagen

Moukoko has not found consistent success at Copenhagen either, having netted just four goals in 20 matches for the Danish champions.

His latest starting appearance was in a Champions League clash against Qarabag, where the team suffered a 2-0 defeat, and he was substituted at halftime.

Emphasizing Team Success

Admitting to his own high standards, he stated, “I’m my own biggest critic; I know that wasn’t my level. It just wasn’t my day.”

He emphasized the importance of teamwork, saying, “Before my personal success, it’s crucial that we achieve success as a team. But I will overcome this; I believe in myself.”

Facing New Challenges

Moukoko also acknowledged that adapting to playing every three days has been challenging, particularly since he rarely played a full match over the previous two years. He remains optimistic about making a significant contribution to the team, especially as they prepare to face Dortmund in their upcoming match.
