Morgan Rogers Aims to Showcase His Value for Aston Villa and National Team

Morgan Rogers: A Versatile Asset in the Making

Embracing Positional Flexibility

Morgan Rogers, an emerging talent at Aston Villa, is choosing not to be defined by conventional labels. While he refers to his adaptability on the field, it also reflects his self-assurance in his abilities.

A Standout Season

At just 23 years old, Rogers is currently the leading scorer for Villa, who are enjoying an unexpected race for the Premier League title, sitting in third place. Additionally, the team ranks third in their Europa League group, having secured victories in five out of six matches prior to their upcoming match against Fenerbahce.

Competing for England

Rogers’ impressive form has earned him a spot in the England squad, even being chosen over the likes of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. England manager Thomas Tuchel seems to have taken a particular interest in Rogers. Regardless of the competition for a place in England’s lineup for the upcoming summer World Cup, Rogers feels that he holds a unique advantage.

A Unique Player

“I believe I stand out from others in my position,” Rogers stated. “I see myself as someone capable of performing various roles on the field. I can adapt to being a number 10, a winger, or a striker.” He believes he possesses skills that might differ from what is available in the current player pool, which he views as an asset.

Looking Ahead to the World Cup

Rogers is anticipated to play a crucial role in Tuchel’s squad during the World Cup, where England will face Croatia, Ghana, and Panama in the group stage in the USA. Having recently made his mark with a senior goal during a match against Wales in October, when Bellingham was absent from the squad, Rogers is optimistic.

Tuchel has expressed that it wouldn’t be appropriate for the team to alter their framework just to include Bellingham. However, it is noted that both players can coexist within the team, and the England manager will require the talents of both in the competition.

The Dream of Playing for England

“It’s the ultimate goal in football. Every young player dreams of competing at the World Cup,” Rogers shared with BBC Sport’s Betty Glover. “Representing one’s country and being part of the pool of players eligible for selection is thrilling.”

He added, “It serves as a strong motivator heading into this season. While it’s not the only thing on my mind, I am aware that England has the opportunity to compete for a World Cup title at the end of the season. It’s exciting, and as the moment approaches, that energy builds. I want to concentrate on my weekly performances here and see where that leads me.”
