Monchi Shares Insights on Asensio’s Departure from Aston Villa
Summer Transfer Insights
Former Aston Villa football executive Monchi has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the loss of Marco Asensio during the summer transfer window.
Asensio, who had joined Villa on loan from PSG in January, made a significant impact in the latter half of the season. Unfortunately, the club could not secure his services for the subsequent season, leading to his transfer to Fenerbahce.
Monchi’s Reaction
In a conversation with El Desmarque, Monchi expressed his surprise at Asensio’s departure, commenting, “Yes, yes, because I thought he was going to end up at Villa Park, which was the objective. However, ultimately, it was mainly due to financial factors, as PSG were becoming increasingly tough in negotiations.”
He added, “Marco was also anxious and nervous, watching the transfer market without a resolution, which led him to choose Fenerbahce. We wish him the best of luck.” Monchi reflected on the club’s expectations, noting, “It’s true that I believed, and we all believed, that he could finish the season at Villa Park, especially considering his impressive performance over the last six months.”
