Gyokeres Injury Raises Concerns for Arsenal, Says Arteta

Injury Update on Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta, has expressed apprehension regarding the muscle injury sustained by Viktor Gyokeres during the club’s recent 2-0 victory against Burnley.

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal earlier this summer for a hefty fee of £64 million, managed to score the first goal in the match before being replaced at half-time.

Premier League Performance

The 27-year-old forward has netted four goals in this Premier League season but has not participated in training sessions since the game against Burnley. Consequently, he is ruled out for the upcoming Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague, scheduled for Tuesday at 17:45 GMT.

Arteta’s Statements

When questioned by BBC Sport about Gyokeres’ availability for the match, Arteta confirmed, “No, he is definitely not available.” He further elaborated, “He hasn’t trained today. We will need to conduct additional tests and scans in the next few days to assess the severity of the injury.”

Arteta also noted that the situation does not appear to be a minor issue. “I am concerned because he hasn’t often faced muscular problems, and the fact that he needed to leave the pitch while feeling discomfort is not a positive signal,” he stated.

Emphasizing Gyokeres’ explosive playing style, Arteta added, “We are delving deeper to gain clarity on the injury and will provide an update as soon as we have more information.”

Injury List Continues to Grow

The Arsenal manager mentioned that “seven” of the team’s players are currently sidelined due to injuries, affecting key forwards like Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus.
