Carrick Hints at Possible Manchester United Addition Before Transfer Deadline

Potential Transfers Not Ruled Out

Michael Carrick, the interim head coach of Manchester United, has indicated that the club may still make additions to their squad ahead of the impending transfer deadline on Monday.

Recently, Ruben Amorim, a former manager of United, expressed expectations about potential signings in this transfer window. However, there has been some frustration regarding the club’s decision not to redirect the £65 million budget that was originally assigned for their long-standing target, Antoine Semenyo, who decided to join Manchester City instead of United.

The club has been rumored to be exploring options for central midfielders, with former Wolves captain Ruben Neves, now playing for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, among the players mentioned.

Carrick has confirmed that Patrick Dorgu, a versatile left-sided player, will be sidelined for several weeks due to injury, prompting speculations that the club might seek to address his absence.

When asked about the potential transfers in a press briefing ahead of the Premier League clash with Fulham, Carrick remained somewhat vague but suggested that deals could still be on the table. “Never say never,” he remarked, adding that various situations could arise that might influence decisions regarding signings.

Injury Updates and Player Status

Joshua Zirkzee is another player drawing attention, as speculations loom over a possible return to Italy, particularly with Juventus contemplating a move for the forward who was signed by United for £36.5 million a year and a half ago. Zirkzee has recently recovered from a minor injury and is set to be available for the upcoming match against Fulham.

“Josh has been working hard to regain his fitness,” Carrick noted. “Finally seeing him train with the group has been positive, and I’m eager to collaborate with him on the pitch.”

Additionally, Carrick acknowledged that the topic concerning Bruno Fernandes’ future is “somewhat on the agenda,” as the club captain is set to evaluate his plans at the season’s conclusion, although he indicated that this matter will be addressed at a later stage.

Don’t Overlook Fulham – Carrick’s Warning

Starting his 17-match tenure positively, Carrick has led United to significant victories against top teams like Arsenal and Manchester City, propelling them into the Premier League’s top four for the first time this season.

However, skepticism arises due to the team’s past performance against lower-ranked teams. Since late November, United has struggled against clubs like Everton, West Ham, and Bournemouth at Old Trafford, failing to secure wins, which included a match where Everton received a red card early on.

Marco Silva’s Fulham team, currently on form, managed a 1-1 draw against United earlier in the season. They have claimed 17 points from their last eight matches, with only one loss, meaning a win this weekend could bring them just one point behind United.

Recognizing Fulham’s capabilities, Carrick stated, “Marco has genuinely transformed Fulham into a formidable side. It’s vital not to take anything for granted despite the home advantage.”
