Messi Shines As Argentina Ease Past Angola In Luanda Friendly

Argentina marked their visit to Luanda with a 2-0 victory over Angola following a goal and an assist from Lionel Messi.

The world champions broke the deadlock just before halftime when Messi slipped a clever pass through for Lautaro Martínez to finish.

The pair combined again late in the game, this time with Martínez creating space for Messi to guide a precise effort into the far corner.

Angola’s veteran goalkeeper Hugo Marques, 39, could do little about either strike despite an otherwise solid showing.

The friendly formed part of celebrations marking 50 years of Angolan independence, drawing a large crowd to the national stadium in the capital.

For Argentina, the encounter offered another chance to fine-tune preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As defending champions do not receive automatic qualification, they battled through a demanding South American campaign, eventually topping the standings with 38 points.

Their run included 12 wins, two draws, and four defeats, placing them comfortably above Ecuador in second place.

Angola, once surprise qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup, have struggled to replicate that achievement.
