Mbappe Comments on Potentially Becoming France’s All-Time Leading Scorer: Perhaps Tomorrow, Who Can Say?

Kylian Mbappe Eyeing France’s All-Time Scoring Record
Mbappe Approaches Thierry Henry’s Mark
Kylian Mbappe, the star forward for both Real Madrid and the French national team, has shared his thoughts on achieving the title of France’s leading goal scorer. Earlier this year, at just 26 years old, Mbappe matched Thierry Henry’s goal tally for France by scoring a decisive solo goal in the 82nd minute during a World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine, leading to a 2-0 victory.
Current Scoring Stats
As it stands, Mbappe ranks second in the history of France’s scorers, with a total of 52 goals from 92 appearances. He trails Olivier Giroud, who scored 57 goals in 137 matches for the national team, a record that will remain unchanged now that Giroud has retired.
During a press conference on Thursday, the Madrid striker expressed confidence that he will eventually break this record, indicating that it’s only a matter of time.
Mbappe’s Confidence in His Abilities
“I’m not saying anything bold when I claim I can net goals against any opponent. Every game presents unique challenges. (Azerbaijan) recently drew with Ukraine, demonstrating that matches can be tough. Scoring goals is important, but there’s more at stake,” Mbappe commented.
“I believe I will surpass Giroud, but the exact timing is uncertain. It could happen soon or take a while. I anticipate that it will come naturally, and I’ll take it from there.”
As it stands, Mbappe is five goals away from matching Giroud’s all-time record with the national team. This suggests that breaking the record may not happen imminently, unless he has an outstanding performance soon.
Future Prospects
Despite the challenge of surpassing Giroud’s record likely extending beyond the upcoming international break, Mbappe is clearly on the right path. He is poised to make history before he turns 27 later this year.
