Mayele Hat-Trick Powers Pyramids FC To FIFA Challenger Cup

Egyptian giants Pyramids FC etched their name into history on Tuesday night after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli 3-1 to win the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

Star striker Fiston Maye scored a stunning hat-trick to hand the African champions their first-ever FIFA trophy.

The result meant the winners of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League winners have booked their place in the FIFA Challenger Cup later this year.

The Cairo-based club came into the match in fine form following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Auckland City in September.

Mayele broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, firing past goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.

Al Ahli equalized just before the break through Ivan Toney’s penalty.

But the Congolese forward struck twice in quick succession midway through the second half to seal a landmark victory for African club football.

Pyramids FC advance to the FIFA Challenger Cup on December 13.

They will face either Mexico’s Cruz Azul or the soon-to-be-crowned Copa Libertadores champions.

The victor of that clash will meet Paris Saint-Germain in the Intercontinental Cup final on December 17.
