Manchester United vs AC Milan Europa League Live Football Score 11 Mar 2021
Manchester United will be looking to carry on where they left off when they welcome AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday evening. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were irresistible in their weekend win over City and know another positive performance is needed in their round of 16 first-leg.
This week’s match will be the 11th meeting between United and AC Milan in European competition, with all 10 previous meetings coming in the European Cup/Champions League. In terms of early team news Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani are both expected to miss the match while Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek remain absent, as do Juan Mata and David de Gea.
MAN UTD VS AC MILAN: PREDICTIONS
Man Utd are yet to win a trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his two-year spell in charge of the club, often falling at the penultimate hurdle. Last season they reached the semi-finals of the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League, falling to eventual winners Sevilla in the latter.
At the start of the season the Europa League would not have been their goal, but after finishing third in their Champions League group it is their reality, and the club will undoubtedly be looking to use it as another chance to add to their trophy cabinet. In the last round they cruised past Real Sociedad, winning 4-0 on aggregate with all goals coming in the first leg, but now they face a fellow European giant.
Fallen, or sleeping giants is the term often used to describe AC Milan but they have awoken and are in search of their first Europa League trophy and first European glory since winning the 2007 Champions League. It’s already been a long journey for AC Milan to reach this stage as they entered the Europa League at the second qualifying round, having to play three matches before even getting to the groups.
Stefano Pioli’s men went on to finish top of their group, winning four of their six games and only dropping points against second-placed Lille. Their last-32 run wasn’t as convincing, however, as they drew 3-3 with Red Star Belgrade on aggregate and only advanced on goal difference, results that have come as part of an underwhelming run.
Team news
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani to miss Manchester United‘s Europa League last-16 first leg against AC Milan.
An ankle injury saw Rashford replaced towards the end of Sunday’s 2-0 win against Manchester City – a match veteran Cavani missed having only returned from a muscle injury at Crystal Palace last Wednesday.
