Manchester United Eyeing Malmo’s Young Goalkeeper Melker Ellborg
Manchester United is monitoring the progress of young goalkeeper Melker Ellborg from Malmo.
Scout Reports
Club scouts attended Malmo’s recent Europa League match against Panathinaikos, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Swedish side.
Despite the loss, Ellborg made an impact by saving a penalty during the game.
Ongoing Evaluation
Tony Coton, Manchester United’s goalkeeping scout, has been tracking Ellborg for a long period.
In a recent statement, United’s football director Jason Wilcox mentioned the detailed scouting work behind the signing of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, noting that Coton conducted a year-long evaluation.
Wilcox said:
He was relentless with it. This guy is going to be a top signing for us and you know he started well, but he’s got to keep it going. He’s very reflective. He’s very professional in his approach and is eager to improve.
Future Prospects
Manchester United sees Ellborg as a possible backup for Lammens, especially with Andre Onana expected to return from his loan at Trabzonspor next year and Altay Bayindir also likely to leave.
