Man Utd and AC Milan Eyeing Valencia’s Rising Star Javi Guerra: A Hidden Gem Unearthed

When it comes to unearthing football talent, Spain has always been a gold mine. While Barcelona’s La Masia academy usually garners most of the attention, Valencia’s youth system has been quietly producing world-class players for years. The likes of David Silva, Juan Mata, and Isco have all risen from the ranks of Valencia to become international superstars.

The latest gem to be discovered at Valencia is 22-year-old Javi Guerra. Despite Valencia’s recent struggles compared to their glory days in the early 2000s, their academy continues to churn out top talents. This summer, centre-back duo Cristhian Mosquera and Yasek Gasiorowski have already made moves to Arsenal and PSV, respectively. But the biggest buzz is around Guerra, with Manchester United and AC Milan among the clubs linked with the young midfielder.

From Humble Beginnings to Big Break

Guerra, a native of the tiny village of Gilet, joined his first club, UD Pucol, at the age of five. He caught the attention of his coach, Josep Bosch, who saw his potential early on. “I’ve been a trainer since I was 16, but he’s the only player I’ve ever thought, ‘if this kid doesn’t make it to professional football, then no one will’,” Bosch recalled in a 2023 interview.

Guerra’s journey took him to Villarreal’s academy before he eventually joined Valencia in 2019 for almost €1 million. He made his senior debut for Valencia in 2023 and quickly became a fan favourite after scoring a crucial goal that helped the club avoid relegation.

Guerra’s Style of Play

Standing at 6’1″, Guerra is an athletic, dynamic player with a remarkable technical ability. His love for taking on his man and his ability to drive the ball forward are among his key strengths. He’s also a threat in front of goal, averaging 1.64 shots per 90 minutes. Off the pitch, he is known for his humble nature and light-hearted personality.

What’s Next for Guerra?

With Manchester United looking to strengthen their midfield and AC Milan reportedly willing to spend up to €20m (£17.4m/$23m) to secure his services, it seems like Guerra’s time at Valencia may be coming to an end. However, Valencia value Guerra at closer to €30m (£26m/$35m) and have shown in the past that they are not afraid to reject offers.

When asked about his future, Guerra said, “It was decided that I would stay at Valencia and, to be honest, I was happy with that. If Atleti calls again this summer? Never say never, but I want to stay at Valencia. That’s my priority. If nothing crazy happens, I’ll stay here.”

Whether he stays at Valencia or makes a big move this summer, one thing is clear: Javi Guerra is a hidden gem who is about to shine brightly on the world stage.
