Paul Ince Urges Kobbie Mainoo to Consider Leaving Manchester United

Kobbie Mainoo, a 20-year-old midfielder, has experienced a dramatic shift in his career trajectory, moving from a key role in the Euro 2024 final for England to finding himself as the fourth-choice midfielder at Manchester United under manager Ruben Amorim.

Recently, Mainoo sought a loan move away from the club late in the summer transfer window; however, his plea was swiftly rejected by Manchester United.

Since then, the emerging talent has played only 183 minutes across 10 Premier League appearances without earning a single start.

Ince’s Advice to Mainoo

In an interview with Covers.com, former Manchester United star Paul Ince expressed his belief that Mainoo should seek a transfer to ensure his chances of making it into Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

“I would strongly consider moving clubs in January if I were in Mainoo’s position,” Ince stated. “The World Cup is a significant priority, and leaving Manchester United—whether on a loan or a permanent transfer—seems like the most feasible way to improve his chances of making the England team.”

“When Mainoo initially emerged, there was a lot of excitement surrounding his talent; he was performing well for Manchester United and earning opportunities with England.”

“However, since that time, things have shifted, and it remains unclear whether it is the player’s development or the decisions being made by manager Ruben Amorim that have influenced his situation. Perhaps his ascent took place too rapidly, but whatever the circumstances, his path has been challenging.”
