Mamelodi Sundowns have strengthened their squad with the acquisition of Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos from Primeira Liga outfit Vitória Guimarães.
The 26-year-old joins the South African champions after two seasons in Portugal.
He made 90 appearances for Guimaraes contributing eight goals and 16 assists.
He had earlier played in the United States for a brief spell in Major League Soccer before returning to Europe in July 2023.
Santos also carries pedigree from the international stage, having represented Portugal across various youth levels.
He was part of the nation’s U17 side that lifted the 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, and earned caps from U16 through U21, though a senior debut has so far eluded him.
For Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso, the arrival of Santos is a timely boost as the club looks to sharpen its attacking options before the transfer deadline.
The versatile midfielder is capable of operating as a traditional playmaker or as an inverted winger, offering tactical flexibility in the final third.
The signing underscores Sundowns’ ambition to maintain domestic dominance in the Betway Premiership while also pushing for continental glory in the CAF Champions League.
