Mainz Teams Up with Two Serie A Clubs to Secure Stefan Posch's Return to Bundesliga

Posch’s Transition to Mainz

Resolution of Transfer Issues

The significant hurdle preventing Stefan Posch’s return to Germany has been addressed, as the 28-year-old’s previous Serie A loan club, Como 1907, has acquired him permanently from FC Bologna. The transfer was completed for a fee of €5.5 million, allowing Como to secure the rights to the 49-time capped ÖFB international. Following this transaction, Posch signed a new contract with Como, which will keep him at the club until 2029 before being loaned out.

Details of the Loan

Posch’s loan to Mainz does not appear to include an option for a permanent transfer. However, it is likely that Mainz must pay Como loan fees if they successfully avoid relegation. He is the third player signed by Mainz in January, joining Augsburg’s Philipp Tietz and Stuttgart’s Silas as the team aims to strengthen its roster during the ongoing battle against relegation.

Insight from the Club

“Stefan Posch is an experienced defender equipped with strong dueling abilities,” commented Nico Bungert, the sporting director of FSV Mainz, in an official statement. “He has demonstrated his quality both in the Bundesliga and on the international stage. His attributes make him the precise reinforcement for our defense that we sought for the latter part of the season.”

Player’s Ambitions

“The primary objective must be to rise quickly from the bottom of the table and commit fully to the mission of survival,” Posch stated regarding his new challenge. “I believe we can achieve this, and I am enthusiastic about contributing to the team’s efforts.”
