Mainz Coach Supports Bayern Munichs Armindo Sieb (23) to Rise After Silass Devastating Injury
Mainz 05 Coach Shows Support for Bayern Munich Loan Star Amid Injury Setback
Mainz Faces Injury Blow
Mainz 05’s coach, Urs Fischer, has expressed his support for Bayern Munich’s loanee, Armindo Sieb, following the unfortunate injury news regarding Congolese forward Silas. On Friday, Mainz confirmed that Silas sustained a serious injury during a recent Conference League match against Sigma Olomouc, resulting in a broken tibia and fibula. This injury will keep the 27-year-old out for the entire 2025/26 Bundesliga season.
Concern Over Player’s Future
Given Silas’s prior injury struggles, it’s possible that Mainz did not secure a contract extension for him beyond the current campaign. If this assumption holds true, his latest setback may mark the end of his tenure in the Bundesliga. Mainz’s management has shown empathy towards Silas, but it remains unclear if he will play for the club again.
Sieb’s Performance and History
This season, the 23-year-old Sieb has capitalized on his chances in Germany’s top league, scoring two goals under the previous Mainz coach, Bo Henriksen. However, his performances under Fischer have been less impressive, with only one start and a long stint as a substitute during matchdays 17 and 18 in January.
Sieb has not had notable playing time since then.
Despite his smaller frame, Sieb is admired for his athletic prowess and has drawn comparisons to Xherdan Shaqiri during his breakout 2023/24 season with SpVgg Greuther Fürth. After selling Sieb to Fürth in the summer of 2022, Bayern Munich activated a buyback clause before loaning him to Mainz for two years.
In his time at the Bundesliga, Sieb has scored four goals across 43 appearances. Notably, both of his league goals last season and this season were scored in September and October, leading to a drop in visibility as the seasons progressed. Sieb will be eager to change that trajectory.
Fischer’s Comments on the Situation
“Silas’s injury has impacted all of us,” Fischer remarked in a press conference on Friday. “The young man had made a great recovery. You truly feel for him.”
Fischer also highlighted Sieb’s potential as a replacement for Silas, saying, “In Armindo, we have a player with similar abilities who isn’t afraid to take on defenders and possesses extraordinary speed. I’m confident we can manage [the impact of Silas’ injury] with our deep squad.”
