Mainz Chief Offers Update on Silas: Were Concerned About a Possible Shinbone Fracture
Mainz 05 Faces Injury Concern Following Draw in Conference League
Mainz 05’s sporting director Niko Bungert has expressed concerns that striker Silas may have sustained a lower leg fracture during their scoreless encounter with SK Sigma Olomouc in the UEFA Conference League round of 16.
Injury Update
Bungert stated, “We are worried that Silas might have a broken shinbone. This is particularly unfortunate because he is a genuinely positive individual and has faced a number of injuries previously,” during an interview in the mixed zone.
Match Analysis
The director admitted, “The match wasn’t of a high standard,” noting that the team from the Czech Republic managed to secure a goalless draw in the first leg. However, he also emphasized some positive takeaways from the experience.
“We faced a team that was tactically solid and challenged us significantly, especially on a day when we weren’t at our best. We struggled to create dangerous opportunities and faced a couple of very narrow offside calls,” the 39-year-old remarked after the game.
Looking Ahead
Despite the frustrating performance, Bungert believes the situation is still favorable as they head into the second leg. “We remain in a controllable position for the next match, and if we have a full stadium behind us, we still have the upper hand. Our focus now shifts to the upcoming game against Bremen this weekend,” he concluded.
