Lucien Favre Announces Retirement from Coaching at 68
A Career Completed
At 68 years old, former Bundesliga manager Lucien Favre has officially announced the end of his coaching journey.
“I feel content with my decision. I made this choice some time ago, realizing that I have accomplished what I set out to do; it’s time to move on,” Favre shared during an interview with Blick.
Declining New Opportunities
The Swiss manager mentioned he received offers from clubs in Europe as well as from Saudi Arabia following his departure from Nice.
“I turned down these opportunities politely because I am unequivocally finished. Most people have grasped my stance on this matter. While you can always inquire, my response will remain unchanged: it’s over,” he elaborated.
No Interest in Alternative Roles
“I have done enough; it’s time,” Favre emphasized, indicating he has no plans to take on any other roles within the world of football.
A Glimpse into His Achievements
Favre enjoyed notable success, clinching the Swiss championship twice with FC Zürich before making his way to Germany, where he won the German Supercup with Borussia Dortmund.
He had the longest stint at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he oversaw 189 matches over approximately three and a half years.
One of his most remarkable achievements at Borussia-Park was rescuing the team from relegation after taking the reins in February 2011. He further led Die Fohlen to a commendable third-place finish in the Bundesliga during the 2014/15 season.
