Son of French Legend Zinedine Zidane Chooses Algeria Over France

Luca Zidane, son of legendary French midfielder Zinedine Zidane, has decided to represent Algeria at international level.

This development comes after FIFA approved his change of allegiance.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who was born near Marseille, previously played for France across various youth categories but never broke into the senior setup.

Luca could soon have the opportunity to appear on football’s biggest stage with the Desert Warriors strongly positioned to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Currently on the books of Granada in Spain’s Segunda División, Zidane began his career at Real Madrid, where he came through the club’s famed academy alongside his three brothers.

He made just two senior appearances for Los Blancos.

He later gained La Liga experience with Rayo Vallecano before spells at Eibar and then Granada.

Luca’s eligibility for Algeria comes through his family roots in the Kabylie region, where his grandparents were born.

His father, Zinedine Zidane remains one of the most iconic figures in football history, and is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever play game.

For Luca, the decision opens a new chapter, one that could see him write his own story on the international stage in Algeria’s green.
