Liverpool Targets Bayern Defender Upamecano
Interest in Upamecano
Liverpool is currently focused on Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano as a potential signing. According to reports from BILD, the club considers Upamecano a viable option, especially in comparison to Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
Contract Situation
Both defenders are set to be free agents by June. However, Liverpool can engage in discussions for a pre-contract agreement with Upamecano starting January 1, which is not the case with Guehi due to regulations preventing domestic clubs from signing players under such agreements.
Competition from Real Madrid
In addition to Liverpool’s interest, Real Madrid has also expressed a desire to acquire Upamecano. Nevertheless, Liverpool may make a proposal in January aimed at persuading Bayern to release the defender before the end of the current season.
Defensive Concerns for Liverpool
Following Giovanni Leoni’s recent knee injury, which has sidelined him for the remainder of the season, Liverpool is particularly anxious about their defensive lineup.
