Lewandowski of Barcelona Connects with Chicago Fires Coach Berhalter

Lewandowski’s Future Uncertain Amid Chicago Fire Interest

The Polish striker is set to become a free agent at the end of the ongoing season and is currently awaiting discussions regarding a contract renewal with Barcelona.

Chicago Fire’s Pursuit of the Star Forward

Simultaneously, Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire is keen on signing Lewandowski and has been proactive in their efforts. In recent months, head coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter held talks with Lewandowski in Barcelona, along with his agent Pini Zahavi, to assess the possibility of the player moving to the United States.

Ambitious Plans for the Future

Former player and analyst Janusz Michallik shared insights on the Chicago Fire’s intentions, stating that the club is “100% dedicated” to persuading Lewandowski and his family. The team is focused on an ambitious initiative that goes beyond the sporting realm.

“If Barcelona were to propose him a contract extension, there wouldn’t be any conversation,” Michallik explained, highlighting that Chicago represents a viable option only if Lewandowski decides to part ways with Barça. He added that the club envisions Lewandowski as a central figure in their transformation plans, which also aim towards the introduction of a new stadium in 2028.
