Sunderland’s Manager Open to Reuniting with Marc Guiu from Chelsea
Guiu’s Journey with Sunderland
Sunderland’s head coach, Regis Le Bris, expressed his willingness to welcome back Marc Guiu from Chelsea, the club they are set to face this weekend. After initially joining Sunderland and participating early in the season, Guiu’s loan was terminated by Chelsea due to an injury sustained by their striker, Liam Delap.
FIFA Regulations on Player Transfers
According to FIFA regulations, players can represent only two clubs within a single season. Consequently, if Guiu decides to leave Chelsea during the January transfer window, Sunderland would be his sole option for a potential return.
Coach Le Bris’s Comments on Guiu’s Future
When asked about the possibility of re-signing Guiu, Le Bris stated, “Yes, it’s too early to make a definitive decision. The challenge we face is that he has already trained with both Sunderland and Chelsea. Therefore, if he goes on loan, it must be to Sunderland.”
He elaborated, “This could indeed be his only option, but the choice rests with us. Currently, our forward lineup is strong, so there’s no immediate need for additional players.”
Le Bris also highlighted his admiration for Guiu’s attitude and desire for improvement: “I appreciated our rapport. He demonstrates a strong willingness to learn, develop, and engage with those around him.”
Guiu’s Development and Abilities
Le Bris noted that Guiu’s fitness was not up to par during his time with Sunderland. “Our focus was to allow him to train with the team and work on his fitness regimen. We were preparing him for Chelsea because I believe he is now ready, though that wasn’t the case when he was with us.”
He praised Guiu’s skill set, calling him a dedicated and versatile forward: “He possesses the ability to make runs, hold the ball effectively, defend well, and apply strong counter-pressing. He is an excellent striker.”
