Late Transfer Deals You Might Have Missed

The January transfer window closed yesterday, and several last-minute transactions may not have received the attention they deserve. Here’s a rundown of some of the notable deals that took place on deadline day.

Tyrique George to Everton, Loan

Tyrique George made a loan switch to Everton after the club submitted a deal sheet before the 7 PM cut-off. He will spend the rest of the season with the Toffees, and there’s a possibility for the transfer to become permanent in the summer.

Since breaking into Chelsea’s first team last season, George has contributed to 12 goals in 37 matches and is set to fill the void left by the injured Jack Grealish. The 19-year-old might see his first action against Fulham this weekend.

Angel Gomes to Wolves, Loan

Wolves were active on transfer deadline day, securing the loan of Angel Gomes until the season wraps up. Gomes arrives from Marseille and could make his move permanent in the summer if Wolves decide to exercise their €7 million purchase option.

Wolves’ manager Rob Edwards expressed his enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “I’m delighted… He brings genuine quality to our midfield, and it’s an exciting addition for the club.”

Adil Aouchiche to Schalke, £17.5 Million

To make space for Nilson Angulo’s transfer to Sunderland, Adil Aouchiche was sold. The Frenchman has signed an 18-month contract with Schalke, who play in Bundesliga 2.

Aouchiche spent the first half of the current season on loan at Aberdeen, where he featured in 30 matches across all competitions.

Brajan Gruda to RB Leipzig, Loan

Brighton confirmed the loan of promising talent Brajan Gruda to RB Leipzig for the remainder of the season early on deadline day.

This transfer does not include an option for Leipzig to buy, meaning the young winger will return to Brighton in the summer. The transfer raised some eyebrows given Brighton’s shortage in positions where Gruda could contribute.

Fabian Hurzeler, Brighton’s manager, noted that Gruda is seeking regular playing time, something the club cannot guarantee him during the second half of the season.

Kalvin Phillips to Sheffield United, Loan

Having played just seven minutes for Manchester City this season, Kalvin Phillips has opted for a loan move to Sheffield United for the duration of the campaign. The 30-year-old received interest from other clubs but chose to return to Yorkshire to revive his career.

Adam Armstrong to Wolves, £7 Million

Wolves made another significant addition on deadline day by signing Adam Armstrong to a three-and-a-half year contract. The English forward’s move cost the club £7 million plus £2 million in add-ons, as he replaces Jorgen Strand Larson, who was sold to Crystal Palace for £48 million.

Armstrong has netted 11 goals in the Championship this season while playing for Southampton. After completing the transfer, he expressed his commitment, saying, “I’m honoured… and I’ll give 100 percent every time I wear the shirt, which is what matters most.”
