In an interview with Catalunya Radio, Laporta shared his thoughts, stating, “It wasn’t a hasty decision. I expressed to him that I felt he needed more experience and that I had my doubts. Xavi assured me that he had developed that experience during his time in Qatar.”

“Ultimately, I had faith in him, but things didn’t pan out as expected. The incident with sushi became a humorous anecdote. His statements shifted the dynamics; I asked whether he trusted the team, and he confidently replied 100%. I was taken aback since that was not the message he had conveyed throughout the season.”

Laporta further mentioned, “Just two weeks later, he claimed we wouldn’t be competitive for another two years, and our sporting director, Deco, informed me that he intended to replace ten players.”
