Laporta Acknowledges PSGs Yamal Bid While Considering Lewandowskis Future in Barcelona
PSG’s Offer for Young Talent
The proposal from Paris Saint-Germain emerged just as the now 18-year-old player was making his debut under then-coach Xavi.
Laporta’s Statements
In an interview today with Cadena SER, President Joan Laporta revealed, “We received a formal bid of 250 million euros for Lamine, communicated through his agent and confirmed by PSG representatives.”
He added, “When they approached us, they laid everything out directly, but we decided against it. This was a time when Barça was facing significant challenges.”
Future of Lewandowski
With star striker Robert Lewandowski’s contract nearing its end this season, Laporta also mentioned the intentions to extend the 37-year-old’s contract.
He expressed, “First and foremost, he’s an exceptionally skilled player, a prolific scorer who consistently delivers when given the chance. Furthermore, there’s a compelling reason: if he wishes to stay, I’ve always extended contract lengths for outstanding players as a gesture of appreciation.”
Laporta continued, “I hold immense gratitude for Lewandowski because his transition to Barça wasn’t an easy one. He expressed, ‘Given my talent and my experience at Bayern, I want to join Barça now as it’s been my ambition, so please let me leave.'”
He concluded by emphasizing, “He sacrificed a lot to make the move to Barça, which is why I am profoundly appreciative of his commitment.”
