Transfer Insights: Senne Lammens Joins Manchester United
Brother’s Initial Doubts
Tom Lammens, brother of new Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, expressed his uncertainty regarding his sibling’s transfer to the Premier League club this summer. The Red Devils finalized the £18 million acquisition of Senne from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day after they opted not to pursue a formal bid for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, who continues to remain with his current team.
New Competition at United
With the recent departure of former first-choice keeper André Onana, who has been loaned to Trabzonspor, Senne Lammens now has an opportunity to compete with Altay Bayındır for the goalkeeper position under manager Ruben Amorim.
Brother’s Perspective on the Move
Despite the chance for significant playing time, Tom Lammens revealed that he initially believed his brother might have been better suited for a move to Turkish club Galatasaray.
“Galatasaray has a wealth of talent; they compete for trophies, and Senne could potentially make an immediate impact in the Champions League,” he noted.
He expressed concern about the pressures players face at Manchester United, suggesting that many have struggled to perform at their best due to intense expectations.
Factors Influencing the Decision
Tom clarified that a major influencing factor in Senne’s decision to join United was the persistent interest from the club’s goalkeeper scout, Tony Coton, who had been tracking his performance for an extended period.
“Ultimately, the decision path was up to Senne. He felt a strong connection with United, partly due to Tony Coton’s ongoing belief in his skills,” Tom explained.
He expressed hope that Senne would play a role in helping the club regain its former prestige.
Current Situation
Senne Lammens was on the bench during Manchester United’s recent derby loss to City, with Bayındır retaining his starting role. However, after conceding three goals, Amorim may reconsider and give Lammens the chance to start, provided he adapts to the nuances of playing in the Premier League.
