La Liga Highlights: Real Betis and Celta Vigo Struggle in Europa League, Rayo Vallecano Triumphs in Turkey

Panathinaikos 1-0 Real Betis

Betis faces a crucial match at La Cartuja next week, needing a win to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the Europa League quarter-finals after a disappointing loss in Athens. Although Manuel Pellegrini’s team outperformed their opponents for much of the match, they were unable to capitalize on a key moment when Anass Zaroury received a red card for a foul on Ez Abde, who has been rumored to be returning to Barcelona.

Despite this advantage, Betis could not convert it into goals. In a dramatic turn, Diego Llorente also received a red card shortly before the end, resulting in a penalty for Panathinaikos, which Vicente Taborda expertly converted to secure the victory.

Celta vs. French Side

Celta encountered a similar fate in their opening leg at Balaidos. They took an early lead through Javi Rueda, but after Borja Iglesias was dismissed for two yellow cards, the momentum shifted. Real Madrid’s loanee, Endrick Felipe, capitalized on a mistake by goalkeeper Ionut Radu and scored a late equalizer. The French team is now favored to move forward when they play at home next week.

Samsunspor 1-3 Rayo Vallecano

It was a far more rewarding outing for Rayo Vallecano, who head back to Vallecas with a two-goal advantage. The scoring began early with Alemao finding the net in the 15th minute. Although Samsunspor quickly responded, Rayo maintained their lead at halftime thanks to a goal from Alvaro Garcia in the 40th minute.

In the second half, Alemao added another goal with a spectacular shot, firmly placing Rayo on track for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League.
