Former Players Critique New Eintracht Coach

Critical Remarks from Harnik and Kruse

“He embodies extreme arrogance and a self-centered attitude,” one former player stated. “He doesn’t seem to be a good fit for the Bundesliga,” followed by, “Honestly, I wouldn’t wish him success. It would be quite entertaining to see him fail completely.”

These harsh assessments came from former Bundesliga professionals Martin Harnik and Max Kruse during a podcast discussion about Albert Riera, the newly appointed coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, who has stirred controversy with his approach and comments since taking the helm.

Krösche Responds to Criticism

In light of these scathing remarks from Harnik and Kruse, Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, had strong words to share shortly before the team’s match against FC Bayern Munich.

“To begin with, Germany values freedom of speech, and everyone has the right to express their opinions,” Krösche stated. “Ultimately, people are entitled to their views on individuals, playing styles, or athletes. However, I find it excessive and quite bizarre—especially coming from former players who understand this industry. When they convey that it would be entertaining to see someone fail, one must wonder: Where is this headed?”

He further commented, “Next, we might hear someone say it would be amusing if a player got injured.”

Krösche expressed his disapproval of this trend and its implications: “This is not a favorable direction for our sport.”
