Kovac Unable to Prevent Schlotterbecks Departure
Dortmund’s Niko Kovac Accepts Potential Departure of Schlotterbeck
Star Defender’s Future Uncertain
Borussia Dortmund’s coach Niko Kovac has acknowledged that he may not be able to prevent key player Nico Schlotterbeck from leaving the team.
Schlotterbeck, 25, has been the subject of transfer speculation as his contract is poised to run out in the summer of 2027.
Clubs Eyeing Schlotterbeck
Dortmund remains hopeful that the center-back will sign a new contract, yet reports from Germany indicate that multiple clubs throughout Europe are interested in acquiring him.
Long-time rivals Bayern Munich are keen to bolster their defense with his addition, while Liverpool is eager for Schlotterbeck to address their ongoing defensive issues.
Kovac’s Statement Ahead of Bundesliga Match
In a press conference prior to the upcoming Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday (November 29), Kovac expressed his concerns over the situation.
“I’m not certain what influence I can exert in this matter—other than to demonstrate my appreciation for him daily,” he noted.
“He is aware of the value we see in him, but he’s also informed about what he has at this club. I remain hopeful, but ultimately, time will reveal the outcome. I’m no seer; we will have to wait and see.”
